September Newsletter
As the
season reaches a very damp conclusion, the 1st XI are just six points adrift
of Old Glossop with two games to play. Buxworth and Charlesworth are both
beatable but potential banana skins unless we perform to our capabilities.
Old
Glossop have a difficult run in with the visit of Dove Holes on Saturday and
a trip to likely champions, New Mills on the final day of the season.
I would
say that our destiny is very much in our hands and if our big players
deliver when it matters, we could yet snatch a promotion place at the
death. We have undoubtedly suffered from the absence of Kendo, Conners and
Chinny but nevertheless, 16 years olds Andy Metcalfe and Stef Fielding along
with 13 year old Ryan Fitton have performed heroics with bat and ball.
There
really is a wealth of young talent coming through at the moment and even
though the 2nd XI look doomed to relegation there is no reason why they
won’t bounce straight back next year.
Every
member of our under 17’s side is a regular player in our 1st XI or 2nd XI
which can only be massively advantageous to the club’s long term prospect in
the years to come.
2nd Team
captain, John Marsden who has had to endure the age old blight of last
minute cry offs and subsequent frantic “sos” calls to all and sundry remains
hugely optimistic with heart warming performances from youngsters like Ryan
Fitton, Ryan Nixon, Alex Birch, Mike Scott, Callum Danaher, Chris Metcalfe,
Matthew Nixon and Matt Kromoloki. There really have been triumphs amongst
all the adversity.
Throughout the winter months the committee have a number of projects to
undertake which will necessitate Saturday work parties for which we will
require volunteers.
Don’t
forget to keep Saturday 16th September free in your diary as this is our end
of season bash which always proves to be a great night and should we clinch
promotion, we could have a reason to celebrate in style
“ Look
out for forthcoming events as details of the AGM, Presentation Night and
Christmas Ball will be posted soon”
Keep it Real, Keep it Mottram!!

2 Ryans Selected For
U13's League Side
The Under 13's Ryans (Nixon &
Fitton) have been selected to play for the Derbyshire & Cheshire league team
this season. Ryan Fitton also played for the league team last season.
Their first match was due to be
played on Monday 29th May 2006 at Hawk Green, but this has now been
re-arranged to Sunday 18th June 2006, due to rain on the previous date.
This a great honour & we wish them
good luck & say well done on your selection boys.
From all at the club.

New Season Newsletter
Posted Thursday 9th March 2006
A new season beckons with a renewed optimism and the promise
of a potential championship challenge, albeit the second division title, but
nevertheless we have much to look forward to.
After last year’s relegation disappointment we have plenty to
be upbeat about. The arrival of a quality spin bowler from Chris Wallace’s
club in Australia should prove to be a real boost.
Daniel Kendrick (Kendo to his friends) is by all accounts a
young lad who gives the ball a real rip at a brisk pace and will, I am sure
be a handful for opposition batsmen. Having a genuine spin bowler to call
upon will be a luxury for new skipper Paul Marshall who’s “Great Great
Uncle” Arthur Marsland, who in 1911 led Mottram to their fist ever
championship 95 years ago! Let’s hope Paul; with support from everybody can
emulate the legendary Marsland’s success.
Our batting line up looks strong, particularly up at the top
with the hard hitting Kendrick probably batting at six.
A varied looking attack consisting of Pottage, Windsor,
Bouchier and Conroy – (when available), Fazackerley, Wright and of course
Kendrick will, I feel be more that sufficient to knock sides over.
Youngsters like Andy Isaacs, Ayrton Fielding, Andy Metcalfe and Mike Scott
will get their chance when holidays kick in and all of them have great
potential. The one problem area is the wicket keeping department as Neal
Fazackerley no longer wishes to risk life and limb behind the timbers, but
maybe Chris Bowen can be persuaded to fill his role.
All in all, the future looks bright and even though in recent
yeas we have had a few false dawns, I really believe that the coming
campaign can be a successful one. Second team captain John Marsden is
looking forward to giving all the promising youth in the club a real chance
with thirteen year olds like, Ryan Fitton, Alex Birch, Ryan Nixon getting a
look in and not just making up the numbers.
With new Chairman Chris Bowen at the helm the club is in good
hands. The erection of the mobile phone mast and the income generated from
this venture will help finance a number of new projects, not least of which
is the construction of wicket covers, courtesy of the ever willing Richard
Windsor.
Our ground drainage fund stands at over £4,000 and we are
well on our way to achieving our goal of £10,000 which along with
anticipated grant aid funding should provide the necessary capital for us to
finally carry out this vital work.
See you all at the quiz!
