Great
Turnout for Presentation Night
It was great to see the club full
to the brim for the Presentation Night & it was most encouraging to see so
many juniors & their families supporting the event.
As usual Chairman Chris Bowen did
an excellent job as master of ceremonies… in spite of technical difficulties
& an unruly crowd. A special thanks to Andy Gleave, our Community Cricket
Coach, for handing out the trophies & for bringing along his lovely
girlfriend!!!
A word of advice…Andy, you’ll have
to smarten up your act for next season if you want to get the better of
‘Fudge’.
On the food front a crisis was
averted when potato pie for 60 somehow managed to feed around 90…‘it was a
miracle’ said Allen ‘Pie Man’ Bouchier who had under ordered yet again.
A great night was had by all so
many thanks to everyone who came along & we hope to see you all next season.

THE
MAGNIFICENT EIGHTEEN
Sunday
August 26th 2007 will be a day I will always remember. It was a
day when 18 Mottram Cricket Club senior and junior players, wives and
girlfriends raised over £1000 by walking 14.4 miles around the Longdendale
valley and Derbyshire level and reminded me once again that we have
something very special at our club.
We gathered at the
clubhouse around 9.15am with both support cars leading the way, driven by
Brian Wooley and John Marsden. Matthew Fazackerley snapped away like some
crazed member of the paparazzi (133 pictures were taken in total). John
Marsden’s Peugeot provided ample liquid refreshment and enough chocky
biscuits to keep a fudge quiet for most of the walk – (well as far as Tinsle
anyway).
The
Royal Oak at Old Glossop and Grouse Inn felt the benefit of healthy
appetites and thirsty individuals, eager to quench their thirsts, Amber
Necktarwise!! The moment we all gathered at the Monks Road summit (see
photograph) having walked 11 miles to gaze in wonder at the fantastic
panoramic view of the Longdendale Valley, Glossop and surrounding villages
will live long in the memory. We’d done it and were doing it together, the
sun was shinning and we were laughing, joking, all in it together with the
same common goal, priceless! And wouldn’t Fazzer have loved it!!

The George and Dragon,
Charlesworth and Cheshire Cheese, Broadbottom were finally invaded around
4.30pm. Yours truly and John Marsden for moral support, crossed the
finishing line. About this time however, Tracey Wooley, Carole Mellor and
Debbie Fazackerley were walking or should I say stumbling around a show home
on Broadbottom Road (women eh!) but no one cared, it was that sort of day!
Many Many thanks to all
of you and to all our wonderful and generous sponsors.

George's Quiz Night
George Garside Quiz Night To Be Rescheduled
For A Date In June TBA
George's quiz night has been rescheduled for a date in
June to be announced soon. George puts huge amounts of effort into organising these events
- lets make a real effort to have as many people there as possible to
support the George and the club

Tameside Under 11's
Tournament
Under 11's Win In Tournament Whitewash
Big congratulations to the under 11s team who represented the club in the
Tameside Indoor Winter Competition. The team won all 7 of their fixtures
against some very strong clubs. Well done to all involved.

Cricket Force 2007
I would personally like to thank all of those who attended the
CricketForce day on March 31st. Attendance was excellent - it has been a
long time since we have had so many people to a working party, and a lot
was achieved on the day. This has obviously been a very difficult time for
our club, and it was great to see so many of our members pull together in
this way. We will be taking part in the scheme again next year and will be
looking to see how we can achieve even more. Thanks again - it is
appreciated.
As you'll know, Mrs Scott had to be taken to hospital on the day.
Thankfully now feeling much better, Mrs Scott has sent a card and a box
chocolates to thank all present on the day for the support. However anyone
not in the club last Thursday night have no chance whatsoever of seeing
any of these chocolates......

The New Season
The new season is almost upon us,
the first senior matches against Hollingworth on April 21st. After the
disappointments of last season we are looking to improve our performances
at all levels of the club, particularly the senior teams. Our attitudes to
practice in particular must change if we progress. Practice must be seen a
regular requirement, not just something to do if we can be bothered.
Winter nets have been ongoing since October, and attendance has been much
improved on recent years. We must continue this throughout the season with
well attended senior practice nights on Thursday evenings.
Whilst this season will be challenging, it offers us tremendous
opportunity to move forward as a club. We have a very talented crop of
young players many of which will be given the opportunity to shine in our
1st and 2nd XIs this season and place us in a position of strength for
many years to come. I would ask you all to support the 1st and 2nd XI
captains Paul Marshall and John Marsden as much as possible.

Natwest CricketForce 2007
This year Mottram Cricket Club will be taking part in NatWest Cricket Force
2007. This a nationwide initiative where cricket clubs have a specific day
where the entire membership joins together to make improvements to the
club's facilities. The committee have met to identify the tasks we would
like to prioritise, and would like to see as many of our members, plus
friends and family come along to make our club look great for the new
season.
Please either let each leader know that you would like to help, or add your
name to the list that will be posted in the cricket club. Also if you know
anybody who might be able to help with the supply of materials for this day,
again, please pass this on to the task leader. We will ensure all companies
who are able to assist are acknowledged on our website.
CricketForce 2007 will be taking place all day on March 31st 2007.
