Help Needed

John Flint has been cricket club treasurer for over 30 years, and as all who know him will attest, has done an outstanding job way beyond the call of duty.

Over time John's "responsibilities" have expanded to include many non-treasurer activities too, and in recent times have added up to become too much.

John has recently highlighted to the committee that he is no longer able to carry on in this way. At the last committee meeting a number of non-treasurer tasks were flagged as easily transferable to others, for example:

bullet- 200 club management
bullet- Organization of tea bar supplies and pricing
bullet- Management of club averages
bullet- Production of fixture cards for players and parents

Some of these tasks we may have owners for. The ladies of the committee have kindly offered to take on the tea bar activities, and Stefan has volunteered to do club averages. However if you feel you are able to help take on other tasks, or know someone who can, please flag this up to me as soon as possible. There will be many other tasks however small that I know John would appreciated handing on.

None of us want to lose John's unbelievable contribution to the club. However there will also be a time when treasurers duties need reallocating. If you are interested in taking this responsibility on, please contact me and we discuss this in more detail.

I would like John to know that his contributions to MCC are greatly appreciated by all club members, although at times he may not feel this is the case. He is a Mottram legend and I would like us all to help out where we can.

Many thanks.

Chris Bowen
Chairman

Free Umpiring Course

For attention of players and parents: If you are interested in helping umpire under 11, 13, 15 or 17s matches during the season (even if just once or twice) there is a FREE introductory umpires course being conducted on April 1st at High Lane Cricket Club (7.30pm).

Please contact Chris Bowen  On 07725 659074 if you would like to attend.

Membership Fees - Request for early payment

As you know there has been a huge amount of work ongoing in recent weeks to refurbish the bar area. Tremendous progress has been made and the work will be completed well in advance of the new season.

In addition to this the club has also received grants to help find new net facilities, and a new outfield mower. In order to allow the club to fund the remaining portion for these activities it would be very helpful if you could pay your membership as early as possible. This year more than any your support in this regard would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Chris Bowen

CricketForce 2009

The club will once again be participating in this years NatWest CricketForce event, the intention being to get as many members as possible together to help get the club ready for the new season. This year the event will take place on Saturday April 4th.

Please try to come along to help your club.

New Bar & Club Improvements Roll On

6th March 2009

An excellent effort is being made by club members to improve the inside of the club this winter.  I took some time to go into the club earlier this week to see how the bar improvements were coming along. What I saw was a great surprise, not only are we getting a new bar, but the whole of the club has had a makeover, including ceilings, lighting and complete decoration.  I've taken some 'work in progress' pictures for everyone to see.

New Bar to be built for the start of the season.

Having served us well for almost 30 years the old brick structure is soon to be demolished and replaced by a modern all singing & dancing new bar.

It will be a sad day for all those of us who have propped it up ( or was it the other way round) over the years. It has witnessed many special days….centenary celebrations, great victories, the passing away of old friends, weddings and divorces and the first taste of the amber nectar for many a young lad.

Builders are due to commence work in late February and all being well the bar will be up and running for the start of the season in mid April. Working parties will be required on Saturday 7th Feb to demolish the old structure so please come along and give a hand. For further details give  John Marsden a ring on 07798896263.

The first phase will include the building of the new bar and entrance area and a revamp of the lounge. Future work will include new windows and shutters and a revamp of the dining area / TV lounge.

This work will cost around £10,000 and we will need the help of members & friends to raise this amount as no external grants are available for this type of work. If you would like to make a donation, however small, it would be gratefully appreciated. Please send a cheque made payable to Mottram Cricket Club C/O Peter Jones, 43 Old Road, Mottram. SK14 6BL. Mobile 07768 443788. Or just see John Flint at the club.
