Neal meant to not only Mottram CC but to the whole of the league. a

On behalf of everyone at Dinting CC just wanted to send heartfelt
sympathy to Neal's family, and everyone at Mottram CC. Neal always played
the game with a smile on his face, but at the same time he always wanted
to win. I managed our Under 11s against Mottram last season and he was
just the same with the lads. He was a real gent and will be sadly missed.

My daughter Lizzie and I have just returned from Neal's funeral, my
heartfelt condolences go to Debbie, her boys and also to Neal's mother,
father and sister. I will remember Neal as a very warm, happy smiley
gentleman. It's hard to imagine how cruel life can be, but the memories he
left behind for so many people will be of some comfort to Debbie, she must
be a very proud woman, of that I am sure.

I just wanted to add to the appreciations of Neal which I have seen on
the site and heard today at the funeral. I first met Neal when he joined
Barclays over 27 years ago and he remained a firm friend who always
brought a smile and a laugh to any conversation. He was a great character
who loved life but also knew how to do things right both on the field of
play and off it. As well as being a Mottram cricket man through and
through he also played for a couple of seasons at my club (Flowery Field)
and everyone who remembers him from that time in the late seventies (club
pro Fred Bonsall, skipper Chris Dooling, player Brian Robinson and many
others) universally remember him with affection and are so sad at his
passing. My thoughts are with Debbie, Sam, Matthew and also Neal's close
and extended families and I know he has left a warm legacy with Mottram
Cricket Club that will be remembered for ever.

Can I send my condolences to Neals family and to Mottram Cricket Club
on the death of a friend
Dave Bridge
Dinting CC

Just wanted to say how sad I am at the news of Neil,
first met him as an opponent at Haughton Green 2nds in the late ‘70s, then
had many great battles with him as batsman, occasional bowler and skipper of
Mottram. New him through work at Barclays too, always a man of conviction,
always a gentleman in play and work, too early Neil, far too early!
Thoughts are with Debbie and family

What a man, what a cricketer, what an absolute legend. Probably the best
pound for pound cricketer that I have ever played with. Fazza was my father
figure when I was in the UK and also a fantastic mate, he took me under his
wing when I was struggling a bit which shows his care for others, ill never
forget his usual quote to me, ”Dannel its your round” . Although I knew him
only a short period compared to other club people, I felt I knew him my
whole life. His performances last season to reach down to the bottom of the
deep, deep pit and drag the rest of us out was absolutely inspirational. If
I learnt anything from Fazz it would be to make the best of what you’ve got
and giving up in any situation is not an option. The Motty slobs will take
the field again and again, there will always be 12 guys taking the field.
