Mottram Cricket Club said farewell to a great associate on
Friday 3rd October, as family and friends paid their last respects at St
Peters church in Stalybridge and then later celebrated his life at what had
become one of his favourite watering holes, the M.C.C clubhouse.
Jack was a “Bridger” born and bred who became an avid tennis
fan. He had enjoyed a long association with the Priory Tennis Club on
Mottram Road, and before it’s demolition, the Stalybridge Indoor Sports
club, or “SIDS” as it was better known.
He had built up a very successful and reputable painting and
decorating business over the years and many of his loyal and faithful
workforce, past and present, were in attendance on Friday.
Jack and his good friend Graham Holt, our former chairman,
were instrumental in the founding of our club’s highly successful over 40’s
cricket (for more information click here) and he
also became a regular match sponsor. His son Alex, placed an advertisement
in our 125th anniversary brochure which provided valuable income
towards the printing costs.
Sadly, Jack lost his battle against a long illness on
Thursday 27th September and our heartfelt condolences go out to
his wife Vee, daughters Karen and Clare and son Alex.
The world was a brighter place whilst Jack was around and
although somebody tweaked the dimmer switch at least we have our fond
memories to illuminate the way.
Shine on Jack, from all your mates at Mottram Cricket Club.
