FAZZER DAY - SUNDAY JULY 13th

Following last year's fantastic day we will again be holding "FAZZER DAY" to celebrate the tremendous contribution Neal made to Mottram Cricket Club.

The format of the day will be similar to last year's event. We will be holding a tournament for all players under the age of 13 (starting around 10am), there will be a tombola and of course a well stocked bar to name but a few attractions. If you are interested in playing in the tournament please notify Michael Scott at junior practice on Friday night as soon as possible.

We will need lots of prizes for the tombola so any donations would be gratefully received. The day also takes a lot of organisation to volunteers to help with the planning, or on the day would also be much appreciated.

It would be great to as many members and players past and present to the day - so please spread the word and lets make it another day to remember.

If you have any comments, suggestions or questions please contact a committee member.

AMAZING TURN OUT AS NEAL FAZACKERLEY MEMORIAL PLAQUE IS UNVEILED

Mottram enjoyed probably its largest ever crowd for a league fixture as friends and family of our good friend Neal Fazackerley gathered to witness the unveiling of a memorial plaque in his honour at Broadbottom Road on Saturday.  A host of former team mates also looked on as chairman Chris Bowen delivered a moving and heartfelt speech before Neal’s sons Matthew and Sam, unveiled the dark grey granite plaque which is beautifully engraved with gold lettering. There is a photograph of the plaque on the Neal Fazackerley page elsewhere on this web site and more pictures will follow soon.  Fittingly for this wonderful day and unprecedented in my 42 year association with the club, Mottram’s 1st team was made up entirely of lads who had come up through our junior ranks and with an average age of just 19.  Neal would have been thrilled with this I’m sure.

The side completed a convincing victory over Charlesworth and they played some great cricket with just a few fielding blemishes later in the game but on such an emotional day maybe they could be forgiven the odd blemish here and there.

Unveiling Of The Neal Fazackerley Memorial Plaque

On Saturday 7th June during the tea interval there is to be an unveiling of the Neal Fazackerley memorial plaque at the club. Neal’s sons, Matthew and Sam are going to perform the unveiling task. It would be nice for as many people who knew and loved Neal to be present. The tea interval will probably take place around 4.30/5.00 but it would be advisable for people to be there for 4pm just in case.

** IMPORTANT FIXTURE NEWS** 18th April 2008 **

The first two league fixtures have now been postponed until later in the season due to the wet grounds. The first fixture for the 1st & 2nd teams will now be on Saturday 3rd May against Broadbottom. A decision will be made later in the week to see if the ground is fit enough for the U11 match against Charlesworth on Sunday 29th April.

START OF SEASON DELAYED

Due to the terrible recent weather, the league have taken the decision that the start of 1st and 2nd XI season will be delayed by at least a week and is presently scheduled to start on Saturday April 26th. This will continue to be reviewed over the next few days.

CRICKETFORCE DELAYED FURTHER

Again, due to poor weather and very damp state of the ground and surrounding areas, we have decided to delay the cricket force working day until Saturday April 19th to avoid further damage to the pitch. I apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience this may cause, however given the poor weather forecast, and the fact that the season has been delayed a week it was felt that this was the best course of action.

Junior Practice

Junior Training for the Under 11’s and Under 13’s is every Friday night during the cricket season and starts on  Friday 18th April 6.30pm - 8.00pm

Sessions will cost £2 per person

Match Days for the Under 11’s and Under 13’s are Sunday mornings, team selection will be made by the coach; players will be informed and team sheets will be on the notice board in the club house.

The club has purchased embroidered playing shirts and caps which can be purchased on training and match days at the club for the cost of £10 per Shirt and Cap for juniors and £20 for seniors. Priority will be given to players without club clothing.

Following the success of last years event, the club will again be participating in CricketForce 2008 to prepare for the new season.

For those who don't know the event is sponsored by NatWest and is designed to get as many members as possible of all ages involved in helping with the various tasks needed to prepare for the new season.

This year the event will take place all day on Saturday April 5th and it would be great to see as many people there as possible to help get us ready for the first game on April 19th.

There is a lovely T-Shirt for all those who come along. That's Windsor's wardrobe sorted for another year...
