David Shaw

I received a phone call on Thursday night (4th March 2010) from Shaun Shaw (Ted as he's better known to most of us) who relayed to  me the awful news that his father had passed away in Willow Wood Hospice after a long illness.

Many of us will remember Dave with affection after he joined us in the latter part of his playing career at the end of the nineties and played a huge part in the second eleven's resurgence around that time

Not only did he score heavily with the bat and keep wicket with great skill but he also became a hard working committee member and for a while acted as social secretary, organising a number of highly successful fund raising events.

The best years of his playing career however, were spent at Hyde C.C. where he was a prolific batsman and shared in the club's meteoric rise from the High Peak League to the Central Lancashire League via the Derbyshire & Cheshire League. Here to, David worked tirelessly behind the scenes excelling in a number of roles at the club.

Whilst at Hyde he shared in the club record opening partnership with Brian Hargreaves who also, coincidently, joined Mottram at the end of his career.

Latterly, David had taken up umpiring and was still doing so well into his illness with an enthusiasm and positivity which was characteristic of the man I remember so fondly.

I feel privileged to have known and shared in the company of  David Shaw and my thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

The funeral takes place at Dukinfield Crematorium on Wednesday 10th March 2010 at 2.30pm.

Winter Nets Poor Attendances

The nets this year have been very poorly attended and the club is making a significant loss. If this loss continues we will have no choice but to cancel them. The committee have decided to try one more week, and I encourage as many of the players as possible to attend next week 6-7. (We have cancelled the single net 7-8). If attendance is poor next week the nets will have to be cancelled.

The season is fast approaching, and it will be noted when considering team selection those who have practiced regularly.

We are looking into increasing the 200 club to a 250 club but would need another 50 numbers to be taken. There would be 2 prizes per month one for 100 pounds and one for 25 pounds.

Payment is by standing order only for £1.00 per number a month.

Paid on either an annual basis of 12 per year or monthly a £1.00 a month.

To gain how much interest we have please add your name /email address/how many numbers you would like and I will contact you when we have reached 50 numbers please make sure I have either a phone number or preferably an email address.

If the number of people wanting numbers is over the 50 then we will look to increasing it further.
